Continuously expanding , CalMac has designed an apprenticeship scheme to support aspiring individuals who are passionate about the maritime sector , enabling them to acquire essential qualifications and the experience necessary for a successful career within the industry . Many apprentices who successfully complete the program go on to become employed by CalMac . Still , the advantages provided by the scheme extend beyond that . In addition to offering a highly competitive salary with increments throughout training , CalMac covers the costs of college tuition , travel , accommodation , and meals for its apprentices when they are away from home .
