The Port of Miami , styled as PortMiami and formerly known as the Dante B . Fascell Port of Miami after 19-term Florida Congressman , Dante Fascell , is a major seaport located in Biscayne Bay at the mouth of the Miami River in Florida . It is the largest passenger port in the world and one of the largest cargo ports in the US , accounting for more than 300,000 jobs and bringing an annual economic revenue of $ 60 billion to the State of Florida .

The port is on Dodge , Lummus , and Sam ’ s Islands , a combination of three historical islands that have since been unified . The island is connected to Downtown Miami by Port Boulevard , a causeway over the Intracoastal Waterway , and to neighboring Watson Island via the Port Miami Tunnel .
In terms of cargo , the port is known as the ‘ global gateway of the Americas ’ due to its strategic location at the crossroads of US trade lanes . With proximity to the Caribbean and South America , the port effectively
