The Wabash story began with founder Donald J . ‘ Jerry ’ Ehrlich and a small team from Monon Trailer who , equipped with a dream to transform the transportation industry , built their first trailer for Sears , Roebuck & Co . Less than ten years later , Wabash achieved the number one market position in semi-trailer manufacturing , harboring a robust network of customers from a vast variety of industries .
Soon , the business moved into a new manufacturing facility equipped with advanced computer-controlled insulation and began producing original state-of-the-art refrigerated van trailers . Following the move , Wabash launched its famous DuraPlate composite panels , a groundbreaking development in durability and damage resistance to the trailer industry . Since this release , Wabash has sustained rapid , organic growth through acquisitions and strategic joint ventures . Starting with an acquisition of assets from Fruehauf Trailer – the manufacturer of the world ’ s first ever semi-trailer – Wabash went on to acquire Cloud Corporation , Cloud Oak Flooring and announced a joint venture with Fernweh Group late 2023 .
