All Evri ’ s latest facilities are equipped with sustainable solutions , like solar panels , biodiversity areas , rainwater-harvesting systems , and charging points for electric vehicles ( EVs ) in its fleet . The business was specifically recognized for its commitment to sustainability regarding the Barnsley site , having won ‘ Best Environmental Practice ’ at the Green World Awards in 2022 .
Carbon-free deliveries
Continuing the topic of sustainability , Evri currently has the lowest carbon emissions of any dedicated parcel operation in the UK . But that ’ s not enough for Evri – it wants to be net zero by 2035 . To achieve this , it ’ s using technology to constantly measure and review carbon data across all three Scopes , with an aim to reduce emissions per parcel . Currently sitting at around 520 grams per parcel , Evri is successfully reducing emissions year-onyear , particularly across Scope 1 and 2 .
The business has committed to zeroemission delivery solutions in Bristol , England , for example , which will facilitate carbon-free deliveries to residents within the Bristol Clean Air Zone . Partnered with Zedify and Urb-it , any Evri parcel under 15 kilograms will be delivered using e-cargo bikes ; and with an estimated 345,000 parcels within the zone delivered by Evri each year , this move is set to save a whopping 57.4 tons of carbon dioxide per annum .
In line with its goal to reach net zero by 2035 , Evri is trialing a renewable diesel replacement in some of its fleet , with a vision to validate claims that the sustainable alternative reduces carbon emissions by over 90 percent . Specifically , the business is using Green D + Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil ( HVO ) during what it calls the ‘ middle mile .’
“ We ’ re using Compressed Natural Gas ( CNG ) vehicles for our first mile , client collections , and trunking , and have been investing in EVs for the final mile , ParcelShop fleet ,” explained David Landy , Head of Fleet at Evri , within the company ’ s announcement . “ The middle mile has been the tricky one to get right and we have trialed the 12-ton CNG and continue to look at that as an option , as well as EVs .
“ Green D + HVO isn ’ t widely available and there ’ s a limited supply so it isn ’ t possible to run our entire fleet from this fuel , but , subject to this trial , we believe it will be a viable option to help and support our sustainable delivery commitments ,” he added .
It is evident that Evri is embedding sustainability in its overall operations , particularly in its latest developments and its new Barnsley ‘ superhub .’ As the business continues to expand its service offering and capabilities with strategic partnerships and collaborations , Evri is sure to experience further growth in 2023 and beyond . ■
