Sustainability is embedded throughout Southgate’ s approach, from extending the lifespan of operational equipment to helping customers make more environmentally responsible packaging choices. Rather than viewing sustainability and commercial performance as competing priorities, the business focuses on solutions that improve operational performance while reducing environmental impact.
“ I think about sustainability in two ways,” Graeme shares.“ The first is around equipment. You should be buying it once, maintaining it properly and keeping it in service for as long as possible, rather than scrapping it and replacing it. The second is packaging. Every day we’ re working with suppliers to reduce plastic, increase recycled content and improve recyclability. The challenge is always balancing sustainability with cost, because greener solutions can sometimes come at a premium. Our role is to give customers the options and help them
find the right balance between sustainability, operational performance and commercial value.”
Looking ahead, Graeme shares the company’ s priorities for the coming years.“ Our ambition is to bring our strategic, solutionsled approach to a broader customer base, helping more businesses think holistically about how they can optimize their warehouse and fulfillment operations rather than simply buying the same products at a lower cost. We’ re also continuing to invest in growth in the US, while strengthening our offering across the UK and Europe through our consumables, equipment and own-brand machinery.
“ One area I’ m particularly excited about is asset tracking,” he concludes.“ Ultimately, that’ s where we see Southgate’ s future; using innovation, insight and partnership to help customers build more efficient, resilient operations.” ■
